Policing

Policing services is provided by the RCMP. There are two detachments in the County - one in the Town of Bassano, and one in the City of Brooks.

County of Newell bylaws are enforced by a County Bylaw Enforcement Officer. In addition, the City of Brooks Protective Services has been contracted by the County of Newell to provide on average 40 hours of bylaw enforcement services per week for the County of Newell.

Fire Protection

The County of Newell has 10 Fire Departments situated within its boundaries located in The Town of Bassano, Hamlet of Bow City, City of Brooks, Village of Duchess, Hamlet of Gem, Hamlet of Patricia, Hamlet of Rolling Hills, Village of Rosemary, Hamlet of Scandia and Village of Tilley.

With the exception of the City of Brooks who are additionally staffed with two full time members the fire departments are relies on dedicated volunteers. The Departments are funded through Tax Requisition. The County of Newell also employs a full time Fire & Emergency Services Coordinator to oversee the County fire services.

Each of the Fire Departments is assigned a County Division for their response area to Emergency Incidents such as but not limited to Fires, Motor Vehicle Collisions, Hazardous Materials, Rescues, etc.

Fire Departments are dispatched from Red Deer Emergency Services 9-1-1 Call Centre.


Emergency Management

Emergency Management is looked after by their own Directors of Emergency Management for each of the City, Towns and Villages. The Hamlets and the rest of the County is Directed under the Fire & Emergency Services Coordinator for disasters. All work hand in hand to ensure safe communities.

Emergency Medical falls under the Province of Alberta within Alberta Health Services.

All emergency services within the County use the 9-1-1 system for initial call taking.
