Newell Region Value Added Association
Early in 2009, a new initiative named the Newell Region Value Added Association will be instituted. This association will take the form of a not-for-profit membership organization.
The mandate of the organization will be twofold:
- The first task will be to identify value added gaps in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the regional agriculture industry.
- The second task will be to exploit identified gaps by undertaking the development of feasibility studies and business cases that will lead to the establishment of value added wealth – generating enterprises in this industry.
Bioenergy, wind energy, and pasture to plate food items are expected to be the initial focus of the organization.
Initial support for the organization will be provided by the County of Newell, which will provide financial and professional assistance. The impetus for organization development comes from research derived from the Newell Regional Database that indicates a potential of 59 primary agricultural producers for membership in the association.
